Duckers and Divers!

The project aims to improve habitat in a substantial area of the Upper Nene Gravel Pits SSSI/SPA for nationally significant breeding and migrating bird colonies. We will do this by creating an area of wetland scrapes, islands and wet grassland, enhancing and managing ditches, fences and natural screens such as hedgerows, and managing succession through grazing, cutting, coppicing and removing scrub. This will improve the capability of four nature reserves to support breeding and wintering birds, prevent disturbance and other adverse effects caused by human and/or canine activity and maintain a diverse mosaic of habitats ranging from bare ground to woodland.
