Projects / Dune Heath Habitat Restoration

Dune Heath Habitat Restoration

This project will: Enhance 17.5ha of lowland dune heath, reversing the detrimental impact of successional change and creating areas of bare sand for breeding sand lizards and invertebrates; Promote heather regeneration and colonisation by a range of rare plants; Involve local volunteers in a program of task days and provide specialist equipment, PPE and training ensuring that volunteers can safely manage regrowth of scrub species as part of their critical maintenance of the SSSI habitat. The project will move the site towards achieving favourable condition and will recruit, train and licence volunteers for monitoring the sand lizard population.
