Dunwich Forest Wood Pasture Project

To create 260 ha of grazed wood pasture, UK BAP habitat, from an existing block of conifer plantation at Dunwich Forest. The project seeks to implement the first three years of management at Dunwich to start the transition from conifer plantation to grazed wood pasture. Funding is sought for the introduction of grazing and the management of open habitats, including stock fencing and grazing infrastructure, 30 Exmoor ponies to graze the site, veterinary costs, and a contribution towards to a project officer post to carryout onsite work. The project also seeks to increase the current ecological permeability of the site, in the first phase towards creating grazed wood pasture, by linking open spaces/existing broadleaved woodland. The budget includes a flail mover and ATV/trailer to carryout mechanical cutting of rides and to remove heavy areas of scrub to open areas up for grazing.
