Durlston World Heritage Gateway Project

Central to the future of Durlston Country Park is the development of Durlston Castle as the main visitor facility and natural hub of the Park. The role of the existing Park Centre will be changed to create a Learning Centre for formal education, training, lifelong learning and, during school holidays, family activities. The Castle will be Durlston’s main information and interpretation point. The interpretation at the Castle will link across the whole of Durlston and to the wider Jurassic Coast and Dorset AONB. Durlston will be established as the Eastern Gateway to the world heritage site, a key part of the ‘walk through time’. Few places in Britain can equal the stunning coastal views that can be enjoyed from Durlston Castle. To make the most of the Castles superb location, three new observation decks will be created as a key part of the project, enabling visitors of all abilities to enjoy this internationally important coast line and its associated wildlife.
