Projects / Easington Habitat Scheme

Easington Habitat Scheme

Easington Brook is a sub-catchment of the River Hodder. Unfortunately survey results indicated that fish and invertebrate populations were failing to achieve the good ecological status required by the Water Framework Directive. The causes are poor habitat in the upper reaches, and access to the brook by livestock has caused ground poaching and bank erosion leading to increased sediment loads. The RCCT proposes fencing and tree planting to reduce erosion and provide additional habitat and shading, and install drinking troughs for stock. As the scheme will divide an existing field into two, cattle crossing points will also be constructed.
