Eastwood Reserve Restoration

Eastwood Nature Reserve consists of 4.7 hectares of ancient semi-natural and wet woodland (LBAP priority habitats). The biodiversity of this locally important wildlife site is being threatened by widespread invasion of non-native species and deliberate human misuse of the site. Vandalism, anti-social behaviour and the inadequacy of the access infrastructure means the reserve is currently closed to the public for all but a few hours on Sundays.

This project will tackle both of these issues. Working with local volunteers we will remove invasive species and renovate the reserve’s path system: creating a curcular walk which will draw the public away from environmentally sensitive parts of the reserve. By the end of the project, the habitats will be protected and current opening restrictions will be removed: for the first time the local population will have unrestricted access to this beautiful ancient woodland.
