Electrokinetic Sediment Remediation by in Situ Ferric Iron Precipitation (FIRS) including using automative shredder residue (ASR)

This proposal seeks to identify the integrity of landfill liners, limiting damage from pollution incidents and through iron band extraction, sediment decontamination by developing a technique to generate bands of iron stone by inserting electrodes into sediments and soils, and applying a low voltage. The precipitated iron-band acts as a chemical sink for heavy metals liberated from the sediment column by the application of an electric charge.
