England Coast Path – North Tees Trail

The Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 provides the mechanism to create a continuous, well signed and managed footpath around the entirety of the English coastline. The report regarding the route from Newport Bridge to North Gare gained parliamentary assent from the Secretary of State on 21st July 2017.

Essentially the proposed alignment of the trail from the Transporter Bridge to Greatham Creek is adjacent to the A178, the majority of which is on the eastern side of the road. The full length of the path between Transporter Bridge and North Gare is approximately 9.9 km in length, all of it is brand new footpath as no rights of way previously existed in this locality.

The path will pass through a unique landscape. Seal Sands is home to a diverse and nationally important range of habitats and wildlife as well as being an area of major international industry, and the successful creation of public access through this landscape will bring a multitude of benefits to the area.
