Enhancement and conservation of coastal and floodplain grazing marsh at Frieston Shore and Frampton Marsh

The aim of the project is to conserve and enhance 110ha of coastal and floodplain grazing marsh at Frampton Marsh and Freiston Shore. The purchase of tractor and topper will allow us to improve and create habitat. Installing sluices, a wind pump and slubbing out of ditches will improve the fine control of water – vital for this habitat. This work will help to improve conditions for wintering waterbirds, breeding birds such as lapwings and redshank and water vole. There are about 5 weeks between the chicks hatching and fledging, during this critical period we need to know if their requirements are being met, so the team will regularly check nestlings to determine success and highlight any further actions required. Install water pump & generator and ensure optimum input of water to the grazing marsh. To ensure appropriate sward condition of the wet grassland at both Freiston and Frampton, the thistles need to be topped. Cattle are used to graze the wet grassland and keep it in optimum condition.
