Projects / Enhancement of Lough Acrussel with native Rudd

Enhancement of Lough Acrussel with native Rudd

Following on from a course angling survey & in consultation with local anglers/angling clubs & DCAL, it was discovered that there is a lack of/extinct population of native Rudd in Lough Acrussel. It is proposed to restock the Lough with native Rudd to try to reinstate a healthy population.

Project objectives are to transport the fry from the hatchery & release the fish to establish a population. Provided conditions are favourable the fry will thrive in the Lough & in the next few years we will see an adult population emerge. This population will be a basis for future generations & will establish a self sustaining population. This will

1. Enhance the quality of Lough for the public as a public amenity area.
2. Promote the accessibility of the Lough as an amenity area for visitors & locals alike.
3. Utilise & promote the rich natural environment of the Lakeland’s of County Fermanagh.
4. Increase the variety & quantity of angling provisions on Lough Acrussel for recreational angling.
