Enhancing conditions on Lough Beg for UK BAP species

This project will maintain and enhance biodiversity on the intake area of Lough Beg. Work such as scrub removal, grazing and rush control will maintain the range of UK BAP and NI Priority Species, primarily benefiting the UK BAP orchid Irish Lady’s-tresses. The UK holds the largest population of this plant in Europe – and Northern Ireland has about one-third of the total UK population and 50% of the total Irish population. The project will also improve conditions for the UK BAP vascular plants narrow small reed and pennyroyal, as well as UK BAP bird species curlew and lapwing.
