Enhancing Nature at Erewash Meadows Reserve

We aim to enhance the UK BAP priority habitat of floodplain grazing marsh at Erewash Meadows nature reserve. During the process, BAP priority species will also be given a food boost such as lapwing, slow worm, grass snake, toad, water vole.

Enhancement will take the form of dredging the pools of invasive weed and desilting, and installing an island shingle bed; and on land, conservation cattle grazing will be used to achieve enhancement. Contractor works will include dredging and cattle fencing.

An integral and important aspect of the project will involve the local communities valuing and enjoying the improved biodiversity, this portends well for future sustainability. Interpretation will educate visitors; boardwalk and improved paths will be necessary for access to the centre of the reserve. A dipping platform will be the focus of school visits.
