Enhancing the Ancient Ploughman Wood

To improve the structural diversity of this ancient woodland and provide habitats that comply with Biodiversity Action Plans. Removal of non-native tree species and replacement with native broadleaf varieties, adding to the woods potential to support biodiversity. Restoration of neglected coppice and reinstatement of the traditional coppicing cycle, providing areas of open canopy within the wood. Ride enhancement for better connectivity and access. This will also create more edge habitats for feeding due to higher herb layer productivity and larger invertebrate populations. Development of a trained local volunteer group to support the sustainable management regime.
