Enhancing the Freshwater Habitats of Uttlesford

The proposed project is to create, restore and improve wetland habitats including ponds, scrapes and drainage channels on a suite of nature reserves within the Uttlesford area. This will see the improvement to the quality of habitats important for a diversity of species including aquatic invertebrates and amphibians.
The focus species is the Great Crested Newt a Schedule 5 European Protected Species and an Essex Biodiversity Action Plan species. This species has suffered a decline in recent years due to loss of habitat through development, neglect and fragmentation of terrestrial habitats.
