Environmental improvements in Downhills Park

The aim of this project is to create a much needed standing water and terrestrial habitat in the park. It will be an excellent educational resource with a dipping platform for local school children and local residents. Once the pond is constructed a fence will be erected all the way around the pond for health and saftey regulations with a gate. An interpretation board will be installed to improve peoples understanding and explain about biodiversity within aquatic ecosystems. A pathway will be constructed to allow wheelchair access, this will allow access for the public and schools to the pond and its inhabitants. The park is open to the public 24 hours a day all year round and having a new pathway, dipping platform and interpretation board will greatly improve its amenity value to the general public. Froglife will support the project with on-site supervision and follow up advice, training on surveys and maintenance for the local community
