Environmental improvements in Downhills Park

The aim of this project is to create a much needed standing water and terrestrial habitat within the park. The pond will be created in the park which has no standing water at present. The water body will be lined with a vandal proof, water tight clay liner to give the pond a much longer life. The pond will be designed to maximise its biodiversity potential. A wildflower meadow will be created around the pond increasing the surrounding terrestrial habitat. Various hibernacula will be made to improve areas where animals can hibernate, forage and offer protection. This will greatly increase biodiversity within this park by providing water and foraging site for all wildlife. Froglife will support the project with on-site supervision and follow up advice, training on surveys and maintenance for the local community. This project will be supporting the London Standing Water HAP, the London BAP and the UK BAP.
