Environmental Improvements, Northam Street (Portsmouth)

The aim of the project is to improve the local physical environment in and around Northam Street. This is a key pedestrian access route (not alongside a road) for residents to access the local infant and junior schools, communal gardens and a route into the city centre. The current paving and street furniture has deteriorated to such an extent that it leads to an overall run down appearance. There is also a high incidence of anti-social behaviour and crime relating to the concealed design of parking bays and entrances, poor natural surveillance and lighting and overgrown tree canopies
