Envision – Community Heritage Project – Ballynahone Bog

The project focuses on a range of heritage assets within a specific geographical location to demonstrate the inter-relationship of our heritage assets. It will use the palaeo-ecological record to illustrate the changing environment over the millennia, recreate past landscapes using 3D software and create a picture of what we would like tomorrow’s landscapes to look like.
The range of heritage assets encompasses natural, archaeological, built and linguistic/cultural heritage and examines the inter-relationship between these.
Volunteers are key to the success of the project and we have a range of training and direct actions planned including hedge laying, rebuilding of stone walls, coppicing, removal of birch scrub encroaching into raised bog. This application relates to the removal of invasive species on Ballynahone National Nature Reserve, a large area of raised bogland that is under threat from invasive species.
