Erith Old Library , Kent- forming of the community garden

TEX has been working with Bexley Council on a first phase of repair and renewal work on Erith’s Old Library – a valued community asset in the town. The site reopened in February 2019 with a diverse range of community-led activities and events, as well as a new community cafe run by local chef Marina Power.
now plans are being developed for a second phase of work, which will complete the building works providing full access to the Old Library, and exterior works to transform the outdoor space, that surrounds the building, into a fantastic community and kitchen garden.
The garden will be used for learning sessions with children, families, the elderly and those with poor mental health, and will be co-designed and co-created with the community, schools and college. The ways people will be able to use the garden include:
-Trails – learning where plant and food comes from
-Family gardening workshops
-Volunteer gardening projects
-Green/sustainability workshops
-Schools gardening projects
