Extension of Micklemere Nature Reserve, Suffolk

The project will purchase 7.1ha of BAP floodplain grazing marsh to extend our existing 10.6ha Micklemere Nature Reserve and undertake initail habitat enhancements. Enlarging the reserve, which is designated a County Wildlife Site will enable the marshes to be managed sustainably by grazing and the project includes improvements to infrastructure and installation of stock fencing.
The extended nature reserve will include both sides of the River Black Bourne, enabling habitat improvements to be made for two Suffolk BAP species – otter and water vole. It will also provide ideal conditions to plant native black poplar trees which are a Suffolk BAP species.
