Extension to Boxing Club, Future Regeneration of Grangetown (FROG), Teesside

This is a project to extend the facilities at Grangetown Boxing Club, located within FROG (Future Regeneration of Grangetown).

The Grangetown United Community Hub project opened its doors in 2019 following a National Lottery grant and is run and managed by Future Regeneration of Grangetown (FROG). A once vandalised row of shops and flats above were knocked down and the new community hub built. Due to public demand, Grangetown Boxing Club was established with Impetus Trust LCF monies in 2020.

Owing to the success of the Grangetown Amateur Boxing Club (which is affiliated to England Boxing), it now needs to extend the building to enable more people to access the facility. Also many members of the local community have requested use of the club to use as a gym and fitness facility that they can access as opposed to having to pay higher, unaffordable, membership fees for a nearby gym and fitness centre.

The boxing club is inundated with young and older people wishing to join. Unfortunately people are being turned away due to lack of space and many current users have to train outside. The Grangetown Boxing Club is annexed to FROG’s community hub, which is extremely popular with local people and beyond. The boxing club is run by volunteers who are constituted and have a committee, bank account with two cheque signatories etc.

FROG, a hugely successful organisation in Grangetown, owns the land and buildings, and is applying for LCF monies to build an extension to the existing boxing club in order that more people can access the benefits of the equipment and training with qualified coaches. The club also offers its facility to a men’s mental health group, which includes military veterans. Future plans for use of the boxing club and the community hub are to support children with special needs who need fitness and healthy eating classes, as well as people suffering with addictions (Recovery Connections).
