Feering Community Centre Upgraded Entry Doors, Feering Parish Council, Colchester

Feering Parish Council seeks funding to replace the existing UPVC front doors at Feering Community Centre with fully automated commercial aluminium doors. This upgrade will improve accessibility in compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, particularly benefiting individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair and mobility scooter users. The new doors will also enhance security for the nursery setting while providing seamless, independent entry for all visitors. Additionally, their improved insulation properties will reduce heat loss from the entrance foyer, increasing the building’s energy efficiency and lowering its carbon footprint. This project aligns with Feering Parish Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity, ensuring the Community Centre remains a welcoming and environmentally responsible hub.

The installation of automated doors will significantly enhance accessibility, security, and energy efficiency, ensuring the Feering Community Centre continues to provide an inclusive, sustainable, and functional space for the growing local population.

Environmental considerations: The installation of new automated doors will significantly reduce heat loss compared to the existing poorly fitting doors, improving insulation and maintaining indoor temperatures more effectively. The automated opening and closing mechanism will prevent doors from being propped open, thereby minimising unnecessary heat loss while also enhancing security. These upgrades will contribute to the overall energy efficiency of the building by reducing the need for additional heating, ultimately lowering energy consumption and minimising environmental impact.

Hard to reach considerations: To enhance accessibility for traditionally underserved members of the community, efforts are being made to ensure that the facilities are inclusive and welcoming to all. Particular focus is placed on individuals with disabilities, older adults, and those from marginalised groups. The installation of automated doors is a key step in improving accessibility, allowing for independent entry. Additionally, preferential rates are offered to local community groups to ensure affordability and encourage wider participation.
