Fencing at Windmill Hill Nature Reserve

Windmill Hill nature reserve is a 6 hectare limestone grassland, one of the best remaining limestone grasslands in the county. The site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and supports a rich community of wildlife, including many rare butterflies, such as marbled white and brown argus, and has one of the longest datasets for butterflies in Worcestershire.

Windmill Hill reserve has been maintained by grazing for centuries. Due to the steep terrain, the encroaching scrub cannot be managed by machinery and grazing is essential for keeping the habitat open. A large section of the fencing is becoming derelict and needs to be replaced. Although much of the small scale fencing repairs are carried out by our volunteer group, we now need to bring in a contractor to replace this much larger section.
