Filey Dams at 30: replacing the Main Hide

After decades of developing and monitoring this popular and highly-regarded urban wetland, Filey Bird Observatory’s highly-skilled and voluntary team has designed a scheme that will see Filey Dams continue as an important and dynamic nature reserve on the North Yorkshire coast. With a 30 year horizon, this long overdue and multi-faceted project (a one-time opportunity for a complete makeover) will reinforce the reserve’s standing - for threatened species, wider biodiversity gains, nature tourism and the public - fully releasing a potential remaining untapped for so long. Replacing the outdated Main Hide with a contemporary structure will reinvigorate the visitor experience.
