Finsbury Park Outdoor Gym, Haringey – Drainage Project (2827/D

In 2010 following consultation it was agreed to install the borough’s first outdoor gym. Rubber grass matting was laid on grass allowing grass to grow through and minimising wear. The gym has proved far more popular than anticipated and it is suffering from the effects of rainfall and heavy foot traffic. This had led to complaints about the muddy conditions and concerns over slips and falls in wet conditions. The project is to provide mounding together with drainage to divert the water coming from the higher ground. Two new land drains will be dug around two sides of the gym area, to divert water away from the gym area and prevent flooding. In addition a hard surface will be laid within the gym area. This can be non-porous and rainwater will flow into the land drain on the low side of the gym.
