Floating Reedbed Islands – Stanley Park Boating Lake

Stanley Park contains Lancashire’s largest municiple lake; a valuable asset for boating, fishing and wildlife conservation. The lake has been seperated into two management zones; a recreational zone and conservation zone (designated as a Biological Heritage Site) where boats and fishing are not permitted. An ugly fence, in a poor state of repair, currently separates the two areas. Our project aim is to install 100m x 2m floating reed bed islands between the two aformentioned lake zones. Floating reed beds are suspended islands, made from perforated PVC with coir topping and are held down by wire mesh. They contain not just reed vegetation but other aquatic plants, valuable to wildlife.
