Fobney Island Wetland Creation, Rebuilding Biodiversity & River Restoration

The Fobney Island Wetland Creation and Rebuilding Biodiversity Project will create a new wetland nature park with riverine and floodplain habitat restoration as well as increase public access, provide new opportunities for public environmental awareness raising and education, and impriove community amentities in the Reading area, Berkshire. More than 4 hectares of new flood meadow wetland, reed bed, hay and wildflower meadow habitats will be created by the project, all are National BAP priorities and a minimium of 14 priority species are likely to benefit from the project.The project is being delivered in partnership between the Thames Rivers Restoration Trust; Environment Agency; Reading Borough Council; and Thames Water and will transform a previously under-used site for nature-based recreation and habitat improvement for local bird, bat, fish, reptile and amphibian species, as well as native wildflowers.
