Folkstone Gardens, Lewisham – Deep Seated History (006015)

Folkestone Gardens, flanked on one side by London’s oldest railway viaduct was created in the 70s from the rubble of a WWII bomb site with a pond.

Park benches have not been maintained or replaced when no longer fit for purpose, those removed have left patches of concrete where once someone could sit. Remaining benches are mismatched and rotting. This project will see benches, bins and notice boards installed. The project will celebrate the historic railway viaducts (still in use today) which have been a feature of the area for over 180 years.

The pond, which lies in the same spot as the old Surrey Canal Black Horse Pond, is much loved and valued by the local community and this project will also make essential repairs to maintain it.
