Fordham Hall Estate, Re-establishing Diverse Lowland Meadows

The restoration of 61ha of Lowland Meadow at Fordham Hall Estate, a 200 ha mosaic of newly planted woodland, ancient hedgerows, waterways and improved grassland. This project would build on work carried out in 2007, planting the grassland areas with conservation seed mixes.

The application is seeking funds predominately for cattle infrastructure including; fencing, water troughs, access features, culverts and hard standing for stock management, to enable grazing on site. Managing the meadows through grazing should improve the diversity of the meadows. The project also includes cutting local provenance green hay and spreading this on the meadows to increase floristic diversity, and regular surveys to monitor changes.

The project would make a significant contribution to national BAP targets for the restoration of Lowland Meadow
