Forest Farm Visitor Centre, Cardiff

Forest Farm is a nature reserve on the northern outskirts of Cardiff. The area straddles the last remaining stretch of the former Cardiff to Merthyr canal, designated an area of special scientific interest, and which is home to Kingfishers, Herons and many other species. The majority of the woodland is Beech and Oak with several trees being over 200 years old and there is a wide range of habitats including woodland, scrub, hay meadow, ponds and marshland. The nature reserve can be accessed by car using a single carriageway/lane that leads to a visitor centre with adjoining pond, and a picnic/natural-play area that includes a space for vehicle parking. This project aims to improve the visitor experience at Forest Farm by restoring the pond, improving the picnic area and installing new signage and information boards. The project will be led by the conservation officer of Cardiff CC working closely, and in consultation with, several volunteer groups including the ‘Friends of Forest Farm’.
