Formonthills: Reconnecting People with Woodlands

Formonthills is a fantastic resource on the edge of Glenrothes, connecting urban, agricultural and woodland landscapes. The site is well used for recreation but could be improved further with better access, enhanced biodiversity and greater engagement with the local community. Through this project we aim to:
• Upgrade access to provide a surfaced all-abilities route and improve degraded sections of path connecting the path network to housing areas
• Increase woodland cover
• Improve site orientation by installing waymarkers and focal point sculptures
• Hold local community and school planting events
• Implement a Woodland Learning Programme and school and community woodland art project
• Help to protect local biodiversity by a) controlling encroaching species and encouraging wild flower growth, and b) encouraging the return of native red squirrels.
