Projects / Foulney Island Nature Reserve

Foulney Island Nature Reserve

This 2 year project involves employing a warden during the bird breeding season (April – August) to carry out monitoring and practical site work in line with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s 5 year plan. The warden will live on the nature reserve in a caravan during the breeding season.

The project site, Foulney Island, is of international importance for breeding birds and as such monitoring of these populations is essential to identify fluctuations in numbers.

The warden will also undertake practical management on the reserve for example litter clearance and invasive species control. Fencing will be erected to protect the breeding areas and an interpretation sign will be erected
