Friends of Beckenham Place Park, Kent- improvement of access to the pond

The vision is to open up to the community a very historic and neglected pond – Stumps Hill Pond within Beckenham Place Park – which has sadly been fenced off from the public for over 25 years. Sited on the border of Lewisham and Bromley boroughs, the pond was once a much-loved local landmark, and has great potential to bring both joy and environmental benefits for all Park users.
Aim is to restore the pond’s environmental value, returning it to its former glory as a local ‘destination’ and key attraction within Beckenham Place Park, teeming with native aquatic wildlife and plants.
Funds requested from LCF are to 1) create a viewing/pond-dipping platform which will be permanently open to the general public and local groups (schools/forest schools, Scouts, Brownies, Woodcraft Folk etc); and 2) seating areas for ‘quiet enjoyment’ both on the platform and at the side of the pond.
