Friends of Whickham Library Garden

Started in 2006 to transform a piece of derelict land at the back of Whickham library into a community garden. There is a committee of six people and 28 local people have signed up to be volunteers. Gateshead Council owns the land and access to the garden will be through the library which is open from Monday to Saturday. It hopes to open the garden by March 2008 and there will be a seating area, literary area for schools, herb garden, raised beds and a wildlife area. The group will continue to be responsible for its maintenance.
