Fruit tree planting in Lambeth

The Open Orchard Project aims to create fruit-rich communities across Lambeth. To do this, we run workshops planting fruit trees in public spaces like parks and housing estates. Alongside this work we also run community harvesting and jamming/pickling events. This application focuses on the planting aspect of our work and will take place from approximately November 2017- February 2018. The work will involve: - Locating a suitable planting area with the input of local residents. - Purchasing suitable trees from good root stock. - Engaging locals in the planting event themselves, as well as the maintenance of the trees and the free produce they will be able to harvest from them. - Publicity and marketing for the event. - Ongoing mapping of fruit tree locations to build up an online resource to be used by the community. - Ongoing support and community capacity building.
