Gallery Refurbishment

Part of the original estate in the park was a derelict accommodation building 170 years old which had housed a carriage house and stables and accommodation. 30 years ago this was converted to the Arts Centre. Conversion of the accommodation section was straightforward but not the stables. In gallery 2 and corridor gallery glass in softwood framing was used for walling, some failed brickwork was left and other faults were ignored. 27 years of use as 2 galleries have revealed to the management and users that the gallery and corridor are no longer fir for purpose.

The project comprises primarily replacement of the glasswalls with hardwood/double glazing, insulation of walls/roofs/ceilings, new heating and lighting, new outside doors. a washing area for children’s art, velux roof lights, repairs to external brickwork, carpeting and curtaining/oneway glass(life drawing class).
