Galloway Fisheries Volunteers Scheme

The project will be undertaken across Galloway and will: * Form a fully trained team of volunteers able to undertake a wide range of conservation works. * Train volunteers in new skills and further their knowledge in riverine and fish conservation. * To develop a successful model of using volunteers teams to undertake habitat improvements which could be rolled out to other areas of Scotland. * Increase aspiration for designing and participating in habitat restoration projects. * Engage with a assist in the education and training of young people. * Engage with the local community in projects to improve their local environment. * Increase the understanding and enjoyment of freshwaters and fisheries to the wider community. * Enhance aquatic biodiversity (particularly fish populations) and other wildlife. * Protect and enhance important habitats in and around watercourses.
