Gawsworth Play Area Renovation

Gawsworth Play Area (within Gawsworth Park) is a well used and popular play area serving both the local community and visitors from nearby towns. The play equipment is now almost 20 years old (it was installed in 2005) and the majority of it is now at the end of its life, with some popular equipment having been decommissioned due to safety and the rest looking very tired. Repairs have proved increasingly uneconomical.

This project is to give the play area a new lease of life and ensure it continues to serve the community for the next 20 years. It will include a complete renovation of the play area, renewing the majority of the equipment (retaining the swings and “springers” which are in good condition and do not require replacement).

The project has not yet been tendered but it is anticipated it will include:
• Renewing the safety surface (wet pour)
• Installation of new toddler (1-6) and junior (6-12) multiple play units
• Install a new zip wire (one of the most popular items, currently out of use)
• Install a new roundabout
• Install mini trampolines
• Install new imaginative play (e.g. shop front or tractor)
• Install a new climbing net

The project will look to include a number of items that are accessible i.e. the roundabout and trampoline would be usable by children in wheelchairs. This is something the park does not currently provide for and it is considered important to ensure it is an inclusive space for all.
