Getting Bogged Down at Dove Stone

To restore 3,000ha of 5,000 year-old degraded, eroding upland bog to hydrologically intact Blanket Bog in SSSI favourable condition, supporting the full range of species for which Dove Stone is designated. The project will address the damage caused to this Blanket Bog habitat by over-grazing, over-burning, past atmospheric pollution and destabilisation/erosion resulting from misguided drainage. It will involve four restoration phases: (i) protection from livestock grazing; (ii) stabilization; (iii) capital works to aid rewetting, and (iv) re-vegetation to encourage natural recovery.
