Gleadless Valley Nature Reserve

Gleadless Valley Nature Reserve is a rich green urban landscape with a wealth of natural heritage with extensive woodlands and grassland and key local and national biodiversity action plan species and habitats. This project seeks to improve public access to the nature reserve to allow the local community to enjoy the green space safely and to reduce erosion that has arisen from footpaths flooding and heavy use. It will improve access via new woodland steps, repairing damaged bridges, building a new footbridge and fund the equipment and labour necessary to tidy up 300m of overgrown footpaths. The biodiversity of the woodlands, meadows and scrub areas will be increased through focussed habitat improvements including pilot coppicing which will create a more diverse habitat for wildlife species such as bats and butterflies. This type of management will also create a more open, safe and inviting environment for visitors
