Gledhow Valley Woods, Leeds – Lake, beck and woodland improvements (007787)

The partnership of LCC & the Friends will improve Gledhow lake & beck & surrounding woodland to create richer habitats for wildlife and a great place to visit. The beck is currently of low ecological value.
Planned improvements:
•Remove silt from Gledhow lake & beck & use to create bunds at the edges of the lake & beck & plant with marginal plants
•Create ponds and wet land areas to greatly increase site diversity-linking fragmented wildlife communities •Install beck leaky dams and planting •Install fascines along valley sides to intercept water runoff & reduce footfall erosion
•Plant hazel & flowers to improve woodland floor diversity and further reduce soil erosion • Install interpretation boards charting the course, history & wildlife of Gledhow beck & wildlife of water side meadows
•Regrading beck side path to improve access to people with physical disabilities, elderly, buggyusersPlant hedgerows Run events to inspire young people to engage & care for the green spaceRecruit new volunteers
