Gloucester Boathouse Development

The aim of the project is to build a new facility for watersports in Gloucestershire. The Gloucester Boathouse will be a purpose built boathouse with associated amenities to provide facilities for rowing, canoeing, angling & potentially additional sports, meeting the needs of participants of all ages, abilities & backgrounds from across Gloucestershire. It will replace existing facilities which are old, too small & which are limiting any further significant growth in participation in these sports. It will become a centre of excellence in rowing & canoeing, the regional adaptive rowing centre & support growth in recreational paddle sports. The boathouse will be built on land owned by Gloucester Boathouse Ltd (a flood meadow) adjacent to the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal at Hempsted. A landing stage has already been built & the project has the full support of the Canal & River Trust (formally British Waterways), British Rowing & Gloucester City Council.
