Gloucestershire Deaf Association: Phase 4 Drainage Improvement

In july 2017, a heavy rainstorm caused major flooding into the GDA offices. The result was extensive damage to the ground floof of the building, staff and volunteers unable to access their desks/coimputers for four months . Thankfully we were covered by insurance, but we were advised to take as much remedial action as possible to reduce the risk of such a flood happening again. We subsequently raised funds from the community to replace our front door with a special flood resistant model, and this has certainly helped. Nonetheless, although we have thankfully not suffered the same level of damage as we had then, we still suffer occasions of rain seepage into our reception area.

Such is the perceived risk that staff at GDA have resorted to dragging heavy sandbags into place outside the front door each time there is a forecast of rain.

A professional survey has revealed that work needs to be done to improve our drainage, as the only way to reduce the risk.
