GPE0777 Lake side hurdles

The old mill lodges on this site now provide local people with a place to walk, observe nature and go fishing. The edges of this lodge, Rhodes Lodge, are being eroded and the plant life becoming depleted as it is washed away by the wave action of the lake. On this side of the lake is has been decided that more ‘natural’ locally sourced revetment materials will be used to form a barrier between the footpath edge and the lake. This will take the form of coppiced trees from the edge of the lake and surrounding woodlands that will then be driven into the ground to provide the solid barrier. Behind this will then be planted up with native wetland plants which once established will hopefully spread further into the lake providing habitats for wildlife.
