Green Access Harrison Park

Project will provide new green access point leading to the Union Canal from Harrison Park thus linking Harrison Park to Wester Hailes Quarry Park and Rosefield Park using the linear link of the canal towpath to allow the potential of new canal based health related activities for three communities. City of Edinburgh Council wishes to create a new walking/cycling programme linking the three areas that will be aimed at a range of fitness levels. Harrison Park now incorporates a new children’s play area but at present there is no way that the families who use the parks’ facilities can access the canal. Similarly the local youth group’s building is situated by the park but they are unable to access the canal towpath in a structured way. There is evidence of the area, being used as a means of getting to the canal towpath but this is not a suitable access point and currently has caused the area to be a focus for undesirable activities, for instance graffiti. The new ramp would conform to current DDA regulations.
