Green Lane Wood Complex: Enhancing Habitats for Bats

The project will see Green Lane Wood Nature Complex enhanced for the benefit of the very rare Bechstein’s bat, who’s populations are continuing to decline. They will restore the existing pond, create bat roost features within the woodlands, conduct surveys to create baselines to measure the enhancement, offer a PHD study opportunity and provide training for volunteers in conservation and identification methods. They will seek to create lasting impact through the findings of the study and work with a landscape consultant engaging with the local community.
The project’s focus is its environmental impacts, these are of significant benefit to those accessing the space for their well being in addition to the benefits for those volunteering and working on the reserve. The use of contractors to deliver capital works and support the project will broaden the economic impact.
Interpretation signage will enhance the knowledge and engagement with nature & environmental issues, highlighting species of flora and fauna, & ways to engage in a meaningful & beneficial way with the habitats available to access.
