Green Spaces for Good

Freemantle Open Space – FIT Protected Field

Protected in 2015, and 5.7 hectares in size, site is located in an area of deprivation, which has a lack of quality green space. The project is to create a much needed path network along very popular busy desire lines where no paths currently exist and are incredibly boggy and slippery for the majority of the year, then hard and uneven ground forming trip hazards during dry and hot periods, which makes the route hazardous and unsafe, and unpassable for many including the disabled and elderly for much of the year. It will also create a link to an existing path/cycleway, which will help to create an off-road transport route. Benefits of the project include helping to improve local people’s physical and mental wellbeing by enabling them to access the park and making cycling and walking in the area more attractive options for the community.
