Greenoakhill Urban Woodland - Phase 2

The proposal is to develop Greenoakhill Landfill Site into a community woodland and green gateway to Glasgow. Greenoakhill is 100ha in size and located 5 miles east of Glasgow city centre. This project seeks to establish a community connection to this landscape, which has been lost since 1948 due to public being excluded from the quarry and latterly the landfill site. The M74, which bisects the site, has recently been extended increasing the importance of the site in acting as a green gateway to Glasgow. The site is in various degrees of restoration and it is proposed to restore the site over four phases. Soil preparation, tree planting and creation of a path network on Phase 1 has already been completed by Forest Enterprise Scotland as a pilot project to demonstrate what is feasible over the whole of the site.
