Greno Woods: A Resilient Ancient Woodland

Aim: To improve resilience at Greno Woods from fire, flood and antisocial behaviour.

Both flooding and woodland fires are becoming a more regular. To slow the flow during flooding Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust (SRWT) would like to maintain and clear leaky dams, water bars and soakaways and create 10 similar areas at Greno Woods, an ancient woodland and nature reserve. Additional repairs to access tracks and paths damaged by unauthorised motorbikes and quadbikes will allow access for fire engines, and the installation of water storage and removal of vegetation on fire breaks will also help during the dry season. These interventions repair damage caused by rainfall events and provide wet areas of woodland. Issues of antisocial behaviour will be dealt with through repairing boundary post and rail fencing and installing signage to promote positive behaviour.

This project at Greno Woods holds significant potential to enable positive change within our community, creating a safer and more enjoyable e
