Grimston Warren Wetscapes

This project aims to restore hydrological function across the wetland habitats at NWT Grimston Warren in West Norfolk, and ensure they are managed sustainably. This will enable the sites’ wildlife and habitats to thrive, and future-proof them against climate change. This will be achieved through allowing peatland habitats to re-establish; creating ponds to provide water for wildfires and sustain conservation grazing livestock; restoring wetland diversity and natural water flows and channels; establishing scrub thickets on dry heath; and installing water monitoring equipment. The project will also implement a long-term sustainable management programme by focusing livestock grazing where it is most needed and setting up a network of volunteers, students and partners to help manage and monitor the wetlands. More sustainable site management will also bring people closer to wetland wildlife: species currently confined to remote areas will establish populations in more accessible locations.
